The Hillsiders
The Hillsiders are an acoustic band based out of the Michiana area. They play rock and roll, bluegrass, country, gospel, patriotic, children’s song, originals and other genres of music. The founding members are Louie Leets, guitar, drums, vocals and Jerry Makinen, guitar, keyboard, and backup vocals, who played together at The Hillside Church in South Bend, IN, thus the name of the band The Hillsiders. Jerry and Louie became involved with The Music Village in South Bend and met John Sekendy, guitar, harmonica, backup vocals and Don Wright, bass. The four began jamming at Louie’s home once a week and played at the Wakarusa Bluegrass Jam once a month. Shorty after,John mentioned that his daughter in law, Tonya Sekendy, was a very talented singer and would like to sing with the band. Tonya, with her beautiful voice and her harmonies with Louie was just what we needed. More recent , friends of John, Mary Dawson who plays the fiddle and Robin Linton who plays the hammer dulcimer, various wind and percussion instruments joined the band which gave the band a new dimension to its sound. All of the band members are retired, which gives them time to hone their craft and play gigs throughout the year. Hope you enjoy listening to The Hillsiders.
